What makes a good feed

  • Prioritise speech over music, crowd mics, and room ambience.
  • Avoid clipping. A slightly quieter clean signal is better than a loud distorted one.
  • Use a dedicated pre-fader send if possible so house mix changes do not break the translation feed.
  • Label the send Translation or Voco so volunteers know what it is.

Common hardware

  • USB audio interface: Behringer UM2, Focusrite Scarlett Solo, SSL 2, or similar.
  • Cable: match the desk output to the interface input, usually XLR, jack, or RCA depending on the desk.
  • Laptop: Chrome or Safari with microphone access enabled.
