The Nepali-speaking diaspora

The UK Nepali diaspora is concentrated in Aldershot, Folkestone, Catterick, and other areas near former Gurkha bases, as well as London and other major cities. Gurkha families settled in the UK following the 2009 settlement rights ruling. Many are Hindu or Buddhist by background, but a growing number are Christian — Nepal's evangelical church growth has extended into diaspora communities. Nepali students are also present at UK universities, many attending Christian Unions and local churches. In the US, Nepali Christian communities are found in cities including Dallas, Des Moines, and Phoenix.

Bible availability in Nepali

The Nepali Bible (Pavitra Dharmashastra) is published by Bible Society Nepal. Both traditional and contemporary Nepali translations are available. Nepali evangelical churches use modern Nepali translations, while the Nepali Christian literary tradition is growing.

Nepali is written in Devanagari script — the same script used for Hindi and Sanskrit. It reads left-to-right and is fully Unicode-supported, displaying correctly on all modern smartphones.
