Balkan Christian communities include Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and evangelical believers. Voco enables live translation for English-language services serving Serbian or Croatian-speaking members.

The Serbian / Croatian-speaking diaspora

Balkan diaspora communities in the UK are found across London, Birmingham, and other major cities. Waves of migration from the 1990s (during the Yugoslav Wars) and post-2000 EU workers have built established communities. Serbian Orthodox and Croatian Catholic churches are present in major UK cities, but many Balkan-background believers also attend English-language evangelical, Pentecostal, and charismatic churches. The growing evangelical Balkan diaspora is a significant and underserved church community.

Bible availability in Serbian / Croatian

Serbian uses the Daničić-Karadžić Bible (Orthodox tradition) and newer evangelical translations. Croatian uses the Croatian Bible Society translations including the Šarić translation. Both languages have strong Bible literacy traditions.

Script and display notes

Serbian is officially written in both Cyrillic and Latin scripts; Croatian uses Latin script exclusively. Voco outputs Serbian in Latin script, which is widely understood across all Balkan communities.

Using Voco for Serbian / Croatian church translation

Balkan-background Christians in UK English-language churches often have good working English but engage most deeply with theological teaching in their mother tongue. Evangelical Balkan diaspora communities are a growing sector of UK church life.
