The Malayalam-speaking diaspora
The Kerala Christian presence in the UK grew substantially through NHS and healthcare recruitment, and Malayali Christian communities are now established across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Preston and many smaller cities and towns, often clustered around large hospitals. Comparable communities exist across the US, Ireland, Australia and the Gulf. The Bible is well established in Malayalam, published by the Bible Society of India, with several widely used translations. Malayalam scripture has a long history and strong liturgical vocabulary, which generally helps translation quality compared with lower-resource languages.

Will Malayalam translation handle Syro-Malabar liturgical terms?
Not by default — liturgical vocabulary from the East Syriac tradition is specialised, and generic translation models will flatten it. This is worth doing once properly rather than correcting week by week.

A useful test is to ask directly whether they could summarise last week's sermon, rather than whether they understood it.
